KKOB-AM/FM Prepares for 3rd Annual Radiothon to Fight Hunger
Albuquerque, NM – November 18, 2021 – Cumulus Albuquerque announces that 96.3 News Radio KKOB and the Roadrunner Foodbank will partner for the 3rd Annual Radiothon to Fight Hunger in New Mexico. The Radiothon to Fight Hunger will be a virtual fundraising drive on KKOB from 8am to 8pm on Friday, November 19th. From 1-6pm, hosts Brandon Vogt and TJ Trout will be broadcasting live from Tin Can Alley to thank donors in person and accept non-perishable food items.
Jeff Berry, Vice President/Market Manager, Cumulus Albuquerque, said: “Our News Radio KKOB team has always understood our need to serve our New Mexico community, but especially with the pandemic and rising inflation, we know that this might be the first year that families across our audience are needing help. The Roadrunner Food Bank is an amazing organization, and we look forward to driving their mission forward with our Radiothon.”
KKOB On-Air Host TJ Trout commented: “Roadrunner Food Bank has been serving this community since 1979 – that’s 42 years of getting food to those who need help. Back in 1979, Reverend Titus Scholl was delivering food out of the back of a truck, and now they serve the entire community. COVID hit New Mexico particularly hard, and Roadrunner was there to help so many people who would normally not be asking for help. I’m hoping our Annual Radiothon and Food Drive will help raise awareness of the ongoing need, and together, we can feed a whole lot of people.”
During the peak of the pandemic in 2020, News Radio KKOB raised $46,724, or enough money to provide meals for more than 233,000 New Mexicans.
Mag Strittmatter, President and CEO of Roadrunner Food Bank, remarked: “It is truly inspiring when so many people in our community step forward to help. This partnership with the team at News Radio 96.3 KKOB FM allows so much good to happen. They are inviting the community to be a part of providing food to our neighbors struggling to put food on the table.”
Strittmatter added: “The contributions the community makes to this event will help us secure and source food in a time when hunger is still very much elevated in our state. With 1 in 4 children and 1 in 6 adults facing hunger right now, every dollar you contribute can help us provide up to five meals. Thank you team KKOB for making this event a reality and to the community who answers the call to help.”
